Houston adds ex-New York hooker Mike Brown

The Houston SaberCats have added former Rugby United New York hooker Mike Brown to their roster for the remainder of the Major League Rugby campaign. Signed by the Dallas Jackals in September, he has been without a club since the would-be expansion side withdrew from the 2021 season in January.

Brown is a veteran of 19 MLR games across three seasons. He was first choice at No2 for Austin Elite in 2018, playing on loan until returning to New York for their inaugural run in 2019. In 2020 he appeared as a replacement in four of five games but saw opportunities limited behind club captain and USA international Dylan Fawsitt.

The 29-year-old brings experience to the SaberCats front row who were reduced to just one fit hooker against the Arrows. Tiaan Erasmus returned this past weekend but Diego Fortuny remains sidelined with a broken thumb. Academy call-up Patrick Donovan has been with the senior side since Week 6.
