Men’s Eagles named for Great Britain and Ireland series

The Men’s Eagles will travel to England next week for a three-day training series with Great Britain and Ireland. Dubbed the ‘International Rugby Sevens’, the USA and Great Britain are preparing for the Tokyo Olympics while Ireland will compete at the final qualifying tournament in Monaco next month.

Head coach Mike Friday has named a traveling squad of 14 including captain Madison Hughes, who returns alongside Carlin Isles after missing the Madrid Sevens in February. Houston SaberCats winger Malacchi Esdale is the only uncapped player in the group.

Among the notable absentees are forwards Danny Barrett and Ben Pinkelman, and long-term casualties Folau Niua and Perry Baker. Malon Al-Jiboori has left the group to join Ealing Trailfinders while NFL player Nate Ebner will not travel having only re-joined the team in mid-March.

All matches will be played behind closed doors at St. George’s Park, the national training center of England Soccer. Live streams of the matches will be available on the England Rugby Facebook page.
