Austin have confirmed the signing of former Raptors winger Nick Johnson for the remainder of the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 30-year-old Denver native was on the books for the Colorado franchise in 2020 but did not make an appearance before the season was cancelled.
Johnson was a regular with the team under the Glendale banner prior to their move to MLR in 2018. Over the course of the 2018 and 2019 seasons he appeared in 10 games for the Raptors. His lone start came against Rugby United New York in March 2019 and is also his most recent MLR appearance.
At 215lbs (98kg) Johnson is strongly-built and known for his ability to break tackles. He adds depth in the outside backs with Jeff Hassler, Frank Halai, and Zinzan Elan-Puttick currently dealing with injuries. Conner Mooneyham, Rodrick Waters, and Cole Davis have featured on the wing for Austin in recent weeks.
