Canada’s Women went unbeaten on Day One of the Dubai Sevens earlier today. The competition is the second of two tournaments taking place in April in Dubai. Canada were champions of the first Women’s tournament while Argentina won the Men’s tournament.
Argentina’s win followed two tournament victories earlier this year in Madrid, Spain. However, the in-form Los Pumas 7’s met their match today in Dubai. Argentina had a 2-1 day. It started with a 41-0 win over Chile and was followed by a 28-0 win over Japan. In game three Los Pumas 7’s fell to a 21-19 loss against France.
Canada’s Men’s 7’s also had a 2-0 day. They started with a 19-14 victory over and finished with a tight 24-21 victory over Uganda. Game two was a 21-10 loss against Kenya. Neither Canada nor Argentina faced Chile. Los Cóndores 7’s were winless in their three matches.
As noted, the Americas best performers of Day One were the Canadian Women. Their three wins included a 19-12 victory over the USA. That was their final match of the day. In the first three matches of the day there were three wins for Americas Women’s competitors. The USA downed France 14-12, Canada defeated Kenya 22-5 and Brazil were 24-14 winners over Japan.
The USA’s loss against Canada was their one defeat of the day. It matched the outcome of the Dubai Sevens first tournament. As Yaras were unable to follow-up on their win over Japan. The Brazilians were beaten by the USA and France in their remaining matches today.
