Cobras topple Cafeteros Pro to claim first SLAR victory

Os Cobras now have a win to their name. The Brazilian franchise were 30-14 winners today against Los Cafeteros Pro. The match was a fourth round fixture in the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR).

Os Cobras gained an early lead and were never behind their Colombian opponents. The Brazilian Matt Giteau, Moisés Duque opened the scoring. The inside center landed a 4th minute drop-goal. Six minutes later Josh Reeves landed a penalty to give Os Cobras a 6-0 lead.

Los Cafeteros Pro were unable to conveet their first half scoring opportunities. The closest opportunity was a penalty shot at goal. It struck the posts and Os Cobras were then awarded a penalty from the following passage of play.

Cobras debutant Lucas Tranquez scored the game’s opening try. The fullback touched down two minutes before the half time siren. Reeves converted the score to give Os Cobras a 13-0 half-time lead.

The Colombian side opened their account after the break. They were awarded a penalty try from an attacking maul. André Arruda cancelled it out by scoring the second Cobras try minutes later. The try was Arruda’s third in as many SLAR matches.

The teams traded second half yellow cards and then traded tries. Both were scored by Argentine outside backs. Franco Guidice had a significant impact from the bench while touched down for Facundo Ferrario Los Cafeteros Pro. Gonzalo García converted Ferrario’s try. In doing so he added further to his impressive skill-set.
