Domingo Miotti has signed for the Glasgow Warriors. The Argentine will make the move to Scotland from Australian Super Rugby side the Western Force. He will do for for next season. It will be Miotti’s third professional team. He played for Los Jaguares in 2019-2020 and the Western Force in the 2021 Super Rugby AU.
Miotti signed for the Western Force while in Australia with Los Pumas. He made his test debut for Argentina in the 2020 Tri Nations, doing so against Australia in a draw. Miotti scored 8 points as a replacement for Nicolás Sánchez. The result meant that Argentina finished the Tri Nations in second position behind New Zealand.
Both Miotti and Sánchez are from northern Argentine city of Tucumán. They are Argentina’s leading fly halves; the only two to have played for Los Pumas in 2020. Benjamín Urdapilleta (Castres) did so in 2019 as did Joaquín Díaz Bonilla (Leicester Tigers).]
Miotti may not be the only Puma on his way to the Glasgow Warriors. Winger Sebastián Cancelliere is rumored to also be joining the team for the 2021-2022 season.
In announcing the signing, the Glasgow Warriors noted that Miotti will be the eighth Argentine to have played for the club. Córdoba’s tight head prop, Enrique Pieretto presently plays for the Warriors. The former Argentine players to have played for the Glasgow Warriors are Francisco Leonelli, Bernardo Stortoni, José Maria Nuñez Piossek, Federico Martín Aramburu, Germán Araoz, and Gabriel Ascarate.
The Pro 14 will be a 16-team competition next season. Eight Argentine players are playing in the current season. Pieretto is the one player in Scotland. He is joined by Gonzalo Bertranou (Dragons) in the UK. The additional players all play for Italian sides. Eduardo Bello plays for Zebre while Tomás Baravalle, Juan Ignacio Brex, Thomas Gallo, Iván Nemer, and Joaquín Riera play for Benetton Treviso. Brex is capped by Italy.
