Thunderous Holtkamp try helps Lightning strike victory

Courtney Holtkamp scored one of the best forward tries of the season to help spur Loughborough to a 29-14 win over Gloucester-Hartpury on Saturday. The bruising Canadian lock trampled one defender before wrestling her way through four more to somehow ground the ball in the 55th minute.

It was another impressive display from Holtkamp, who is turning heads in her first season of Premier 15s rugby. She played a direct role in two other tries, driving Lark Davies over for the England hooker’s first try and taking the lineout throw to set the lineout drive for Davies’ second.

Holtkamp wasn’t the only Canadian on display for Loughborough. Tighthead prop DaLeaka Menin provided a number of trademark barging runs while second row Abby Duguid enjoyed a solid showing as a second half replacement. Flanker Sara Svoboda was ruled out with injury.
