Six Team Súper Liga (SLAR) competition set for 2021

A six team Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) competition is set for 2021, Súdamerica Rugby has confirmed. The six tams will be from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

The 2021 SLAR season will begin on March 16 and conclude on May 15. It will involve home-and-away matches with each side hosting and facing the other teams. The regular season will be followed by Semi Finals and the Final.

Sudamérica Rugby also confirmed that Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, and Uruguay will field one team each. The teams have not be confirmed. In 2020 the five competing teams were Los Ceibos (Argentina), Corinthians (Brazil), Selknam (Chile), Olímpia Lions (Paraguay), and Peñarol (Uruguay). Los Cafeteros Pro (Colombia) was to be an exhibition team for the post season.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the matches will be organized in two rounds. All matches per round are to be played at one designated venue. Each of the rounds will contain 50% of the regular season matches, or five matches per team.

All rosters will contain 30 players and eight staff members. They will all be based in the locations for the duration of each of the stages. The two finalists will have an extended period in the designated SLAR game location.
