Maclean Jones to arrive in Austin for 2021 season

Maclean Jones will suit up for the Austin Gilgronis after all. Originally signed in February with the intent of joining the team for the 2020 campaign, the pandemic-enforced suspension will now see the 24-year-old loose forward making his Major League Rugby debut in 2021.

Jones was part of Australia’s leadership group at the World Rugby u20 Championship in 2016 alongside new Austin teammate Mack Mason. He won his only Super Rugby cap to date with the Waratahs in 2017, and recently appeared for Warringah in the Shute Shield.

Most often seen at the openside flanker position, Jones played No8 for the Junior Wallabies and it’s at the back of the scrum where he could feature for Austin. He joins a back row stable that includes Dominic Akina, Moe Abdelmonem, Dom Bailey, Michael de Waal, and Cam Dodson.
