The Newcastle Falcons have signed Santiago Grondona from Los Jaguares. The Northern English side play in England’s elite level competition, the English Premiership. Newcastle have confirmed contracts for both Grondona and Mateo Carreras until the end of the season.
Grondona joins hot on the heels of making his test debut. The 22-year-old was a debutant in Argentina’s historic win over New Zealand in Sydney, Australia. Grondona was a replacement flanker in the win. He became Puma #867.
The young player impressed Mario Ledesma and his staff in Australia. So much so that he played in all four matches for Los Pumas. He was a busy player, operating in all areas of play for a flanker. This included aerial work in the lineout.
Grondona is from Buenos Aires. He was produced by Champagnat club. The same club also produced former Puma and Montpellier flanker Martín Durand. He joins the Falcons after having been a rookie Jaguar and Puma this year.
His move continues the Jaguars 2020 player exodus. Grondona is the second player to join the Newcastle Falcons. He follows Tucumán’s outside center Matías Orlando. Additional departing players from Los Jaguares to England include Agustín Creevy to London Irish, Matías Alemanno, and Santiago Carreras to Gloucester, and Matías Moroni and Joaquín Cruz Bonilla to Leicester Tigers. Los Ceibos winger Facundo Cordero also moved to England this season. He plays for the Exeter Chiefs.
