AJ MacGinty was a leading man again for Sale Sharks on Sunday. The US Eagles flyhalf scored 11 points from the tee as the visitors dealt London Irish a 21-13 defeat at their new home in Brentford. It was the first match with supporters in the Community Centre, with 2,000 permitted to attend.
Former Pumas captain Agustín Creevy was a standout figure for the home team particularly in defense. He prevented Rohan Janse van Rensburg from scoring with a last ditch tackle over the line, and also contributing two turnovers at the breakdown.
It was MacGinty, however, who took the spoils with his accurate boot landing three penalty goals and one conversion. He began the scoring with an early three-pointer, and matched that effort late in the game to seal the victory. Sale are now two wins from three to start the new Premiership campaign.
