Biarritz Olympique are now in sole possession of 1st place on the Pro D2 table. Evan Olmstead played a significant role as the forwards dominated Carcassonne en route to a 37-10 victory at Parc d’Aguiléra on Sunday. With 18 points Biarritz move one ahead of Perpignan, Vannes, and Oyonnax, though the latter have a game at hand due to a COVID-19 postponement.
Next week the team are on the road to play Oyonnax in an early-season battle for supremacy in the promotion race. Five-time former champions of France, Biarritz last played in the Top 14 during the 2013-14 season. Oyonnax were relegated to the Pro D2 following the 2017-18 campaign.
Olmstead has enjoyed a strong start to the campaign, starting four of five matches for Biarritz. In fact their only defeat of the season to date – a 33-30 road loss at the hands of Montauban – is the only match in which the Canadian second row has not featured.
