30-man roster Argentina XV named for South American 4 Nations

A 30-man Argentina XV roster has been named. Argentina’s next-of XV will compete in the South American 4 Nations next month in Montevideo. The roster and eight staff members will travel by boat to the Uruguayan capital today. The roster could increase in size over the coming days.

Upon arrival in Uruguay, the team will go to the Hampton by Hilton hotel in Carrasco. The nearby Country de Los Teros will be the training base for the team.

The Argentina XV went undefeated in the 2019 Americas Rugby Championship. The competition involved Canada, the USA, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and the Argentina XV. The upcoming South American 4 Nations will include the four South American countries. Colombia and Paraguay miss out due to COVID-19 complications.

The South American 4 Nations will have three match days: October 17, 21 and 25. The match fixtures are yet to be confirmed.

The Argentina XV roster contains players from Los Ceibos, Los Jaguares, Los Pumas 7’s and Los Pumitas. The mixture of players is a reflection of the needs of Argentina at this point in time. The only capped player is Javier Díaz. Second-rower Federico Gutiérrez played for the Olímpia Lions in the SLAR.

Mario Ledesma will take 46 players to Australia for the Rugby Championship. The massive touring party means that there will be opportunities for Argentina XV players.

Nine players from Ledesma’s training regime are among the 30 traveling to Montevideo. Three of them are Jaguares: Tomás Albornoz, Javier Díaz, and Bautista Pedemonte. The six others are Lucas Bur, Juan Pablo Castro, Juan Bautista Daireaux, Gonzalo García, Rodrigo Fernández Criado, and Ignacio Ruíz.
