Ryan Matyas is set to play a fourth season for the San Diego Legion, the club has confirmed. The 29-year-old USA international will see out the extension signed in August of 2019 that runs through the end of the 2021 Major League Rugby season.
Matyas has been one of the Legion’s most consistent performers since joining ahead of the inaugural 2018 campaign. He has played 22 games in that time. Despite being hampered by a handful of short-term injury disruptions, only Nate Augspurger and JP du Plessis have played more minutes for San Diego.
Equally adept at wing or outside center, Matyas joins fellow backs Augspurger, Josh Thiel, and Save Totovosau in confirming a return for 2021. They will be joined by two newcomers identified to date, both selected in the Collegiate Draft – flyhalf Patrick Madden and winger Cole Zarcone.
