Ben Foden re-signs with RUNY, to retire in 2021

Ben Foden has re-signed with Rugby United New York for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 35-year-old England international will play his third season in the North American professional league since signing from Northampton Saints in 2018.

In his two campaigns Foden has been an ever-present for RUNY, starting all but one of the team’s 22 MLR games. Four of those appearances came at outside center with the rest at his more accustomed fullback position. Foden’s try against Rugby ATL in February snapped a 14-game personal scoring drought.

There will be competition for the No15 shirt in 2021 from new signing Joel Miranda. The US-born Argentina u19 representative is 12 years Foden’s junior and noted for his exceptional footwork. Re-signing Troy Lockyear has also played fullback but lined up at outside center in 2020.

[EDIT: Foden has now confirmed he will retire following the 2021 season.]
