Rugby United New York have announced the signing of scrumhalf Conor McManus for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. Originally from Timaru, New Zealand, the 21-year-old has represented the USA at u19 level and was selected for the u20s but had to drop out due to injury.
McManus moved to Virginia in 2014 to live with his father, a coach at the Eagle Impact Academy. After graduating from Annandale High he returned to New Zealand to play for Canterbury’s u19 team and in 2019 made the extended Mitre 10 Cup squad, appearing as an unused replacement against Wellington.
RUNY will now have two promising youngsters vying for the No9 shirt in 2021 having previously signed Iona College star Connor Buckley. Thus far New York have confirmed five new players, the others being tighthead prop Samu Tawake and wingers Apenisa Cakaubalavu and Fa’asiu Fuatai.
