The all-time Top 10 most capped Americas players come from three countries: Argentina, Canada and Uruguay. Unsurprisingly, Argentina contributes the most with eight of the ten places going to Pumas. Yet, the top spot is not occupied by an Argentine player. Instead, the all-time most capped Americas player is Uruguay’s Diego Magno.
The 31-year-old Magno was first capped in 2008 and remains a regular member of the roster. He is eight caps short of becoming the first player to reach 100 caps for a test team from the Americas. The Houston SaberCats forward is also the only Uruguayan in the Top 10. In second for Uruguay are Leandro Levias and Mario Sagario with 76 caps.
Argentina’s Agustín Creevy is the second most capped after Magno. With 89 caps he is eleven away from becoming the first Puma to reach the mark of 100. The combination of COVID-19 and his present age of 35 mean that reaching the mark is unknown.
Of the remaining Pumas in the Top 10 two remain active and available for test duty. They are Martín Landajo and Nicolás Sánchez. The former was dropped from the team in 2018 and not capped in 2019. He now plays for the Harlequins in the English Premiership. Sánchez remains in the team and was named in the 2020 training roster, unlike Landajo.
Aaron Carpenter is Canada’s most capped player of all-time. With 80 caps he matches that of Sánchez and has four more than Canada’s second most capped player of all-time, Al Charron. Ciaran Hearn is the third most with 72 caps. He remains active, featuring for DC Glory in the 2020 Major League Rugby season.
Missing from the top 10 are USA players. The most capped Eagle is former captain, Todd Clever. His 76 caps match those of Charron, making him tied second for the most caps by a North American player. Mike MacDonald is the second placed Eagle with 67. Of the active players the most capped Eagle is Cam Dolan with 51 caps.
