Tomás de la Vega headlines five Arrows extensions

Argentine flanker Tomás de la Vega is one of five players who have extended their contracts with the Toronto Arrows for another year. Capped 12 times by Los Pumas, the 29-year-old enjoyed a storming first run in Major League Rugby and started all five games in the pandemic-shortened season.

Also locked in for another year in the back row is Marcello Wainwright. A regular in the match day squad during the 2019 campaign, injuries deprived him of making an appearance in 2020 but at just 23 years old he will have plenty of chances to make up for lost time.

Tyler Rowland made his professional debut against Austin in February. One of Canada’s most promising front rowers, Rowland moved back and forth between the Arrows and Pride this season. At just 20 years old the tighthead prop was second only to Utah flanker Bailey Wilson as the youngest players to make an MLR appearance in 2020.

Returning to Canada from a one-year overseas stint in the Dragons academy, once-capped international Will Kelly made two appearances off the bench as he served an apprenticeship behind first choice flyhalf Tayler Adams. Now approaching his 23rd birthday, the 6’3″ (1.91m) goal kicker will be ready to make his first MLR start in 2021.

A year older than Kelly and of similar stature, Mitch Richardson has settled into the midfield after playing much of his age-grade rugby in the No10 shirt. The Stoney Creek product and Canada ‘A’ rep came off the bench in four games this year after playing just twice in 2019.
