Two promising teenagers from the Americas will head to France to take up spots in the Brive academy. Argentina u20 prop Francisco Coria and USA u18 lock Sione Lolohea are among five new recruits for the Top 14 club’s ‘Espoirs’ side.
Coria turns 20 in July and would have been playing his second World Rugby u20 Championship this year had the tournament not been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Lince Rugby product from Tucumán was the starting tighthead for the Pumitas in 2019.
Lolohea is just 18 and suited up for the USA during their Can-Am series against Canada u18 last July. The 6’6″ (1.98m) athlete is a product of the Kahului Rugby Club in Maui. He follows the footsteps of fellow Hawaiian rugby standouts Psalm Wooching and Roman Salanoa in pursuing a professional career.
Brive was established in 1910 and has won four French titles. They were European champions in 1997 and runners-up the following year. Former Ireland and Lions second row Jeremy Davidson is currently the team’s Head Coach. Pumas Sevens star Axel Müller is one of several internationals at the club.
