Memorable Americas Tries – Chris Wyles vs Samoa 2015

The day after Japan’s miracle in Brighton, Samoa and the USA met at the same venue. The match was the opening fixture for both teams in RWC 2015. Based on the result from the previous day, it was a must-win match for both sides as in addition to Japan the pool contained Scotland and South Africa.

The Pacific Islanders started strongly and would ultimately triumph. Notwithstanding, the try of the match was scored by the USA Eagles. It was a 33rd minute score with the North Americans running three quarters of the field for a one phase try.

It came following a lineout. Chris Wyles looked to kick only to find his own player. The Eagles cleaned up smartly to pass through four sets of hands before Samu Manoa put AJ MacGinty into a gap. The fly half then found center Seamus Kelly who cut inside before passing to Wyles.
