Peñarol confirm Alejandro Nieto as captain

Peñarol have confirmed Alejandro Nieto as captain for the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby. The veteran of two Rugby World Cups will lead the side at the age of 32, doing so after also previously having played Major League Rugby for the Houston SaberCats.

With 71 test caps, Nieto is a player well-known in SLAR territory. No player on the Peñarol roster has more caps and Nieto will have the support of other senior players with prior MLR experience.

Peñarol are to make their on-field but on Wednesday in a pre-season friendly against Corinthians. The team’s opening match of SLAR will be on Wednesday, March 4, against Selknam also at Montevideo’s Estadio Charrúa.
