Los Ceibos have suffered a pre-season setback with the loss of Mateo Carreras to injury. The 20-year-old winger was injured playing for Los Ceibos in Friday’s warm-up match against Los Pumitas in Córdoba.
The team medics have confirmed that Carreras suffered a torn bicep and will be out of action for an estimated 21 days. This means that he will not be fit for Los Ceibos’ debut in the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) against the Olímpia Lions on March 06. Depending on his recovery, he may be cleared for to face Selknam in Chile in round two.
In the event that Gonzalo Quesada wishes to call-up Mateo Carreras for Super Rugby game time, he will have to wait until round 8 to do so.
In addition to losing Mateo Carreras, Los Ceibos are also considering the status of forwards Santiago Montagner and Lucas Santa Cruz. The former is expected to be out for three weeks, thereby making him also out of consideration for the round one match against the Paraguayan SLAR franchise.
Forced off against Los Pumitas was Lucas Santa Cruz. The flanker suffered a knock to the head and left the field with a concussion. Following protocol he is to be absent for ten days, which places in doubt his involvement for Los Ceibos in round one.
