The Toronto Arrows have signed a new broadcast deal that will see them making the jump from GameTV to TSN in 2020. With ESPN News and Fox Sports 2 joining CBS Sports Network as broadcast partners for Major League Rugby south of the border, the league’s media coverage is taking a significant step up in only their third season.
Sunday’s season opener against the newly-renamed Austin Gilgronis will be aired live on both TSN 2 and TSN Direct, the latter the Canadian network’s digital outlet. The media deals have been confirmed for some time but are awaiting final approval from corporate public relations departments before being formally announced.
TSN is the longest-running sports television network and largest specialty channel in terms of revenue in Canada. Established in 1984, it was purchased by Bell Media in 2001 with ESPN holding a minority stake. It has long been the home of international rugby on Canadian television including the Rugby World Cup, and currently holds the rights to Super Rugby and the Rugby Championship.
