The first ever Americas Rugby Championship u20 tournament will be held in Montevideo, Uruguay, this coming June. Competing teams will play three matches each between the 10th and 22nd.
Similar to the Americas Pacific Challenge, the teams will be split into two pools with each team facing the three teams in the opposite pool. Hosts Uruguay are grouped with Chile and the USA, with those teams playing against Argentina, Canada, and Paraguay. There is no place for Brazil.
The tournament is also set to act as a qualifier for the World Rugby u20 Trophy competition, to take place in Villajoyosa, Spain, beginning on September 14. Canada’s prior two-leg series against the USA will instead be a one-off match with the winner advancing directly to the Trophy. The two sides are set to clash in the ARC u20 opener on June 10th.
Both Canada and the USA will hold training camps prior to the tournament. Canada will spent ten days together at Shawnigan Lake School beginning on May 24. The USA are set for a week in Medellin starting May 30 and will play a warm-up match against Colombia u20 on June 5.
The Canadians recently completed a selection camp and will tour Portugal in mid-February with two games against the Lobos u20s. They will then tour the UK from April 28 – May 9 with matches against Bristol Bears Academy and Cardiff Metropolitan University. They are also planning matches against a BC u23 side and the Toronto Arrows Academy.
