Leandro Segredo suffers season-ending knee injury

Peñarol and Uruguay have suffered a blow on the eve of 2020. Flanker Leandro Segredo has suffered a serious knee injury and will miss the entirety of the inaugural Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) season. He will undergo an operation in January on his meniscus and cruciate ligaments.

After a promising build-up to the tournament, Segredo was considered unlucky to miss out on selection for RWC 2019. The hard-hitting blindside had worked his way into contention but the ability of veteran Franco Lamanna to also cover lock worked against Segredo’s favor.

Peñarol has two flankers who went to the World Cup – Manuel Ardao and Santiago Civetta, with No8 Alejandro Nieto also attending. Other flankers contracted to the Montevideo side are Uruguay u20 standout Maxime Sonneveld and promising Colombian signing Diver Ceballos.
