Tony Lamborn will return to the Southland Stags for the 2020 Mitre 10 Cup season. The Eagles flanker missed out on this year’s campaign due to his Rugby World Cup commitments but is set to skipper the side next year with 2019 captain Brayden Mitchell already ruled long-term with a recurring neck problem.
Originally from Timaru on the east coast of New Zealand’s south island, Lamborn moved north to Napier in 2013 and joined Hawke’s Bay. He would play five seasons with the Magpies before returning south, this time all the way to Invercargill where the Stags are based at Rugby Park.
Lamborn played four games for the Hurricanes in the 2016 season before making his USA debut in June of that year. He had brief stops with the San Diego Legion and NOLA Gold in Major League Rugby before joining the Melbourne Rebels training squad earlier in 2019, but has since signed on with the Blues for the upcoming Super Rugby season.
