World Rugby has revealed the draw for this weekend’s Cape Town Sevens. Both the men and women will again be in action after the first combined event of the season was held in Dubai this past weekend. Three Americas teams will compete in each bracket.
The unusual knockout format employed this season left the USA with no chance to potentially improve on what ended up as an 8th place finish in Dubai. As such they will face top seed South Africa and defending World Series champions Fiji, with invitational Japan rounding out the pool.
Canada will once again meet an Americas rival in pool competition, but this time it will be Argentina who will be opposite in their opening match of the tournament. Dubai runners-up New Zealand are the top seeds in Pool B, with Wales the final addition.

It was a good weekend for both North American sides in Dubai as Canada were Cup Finalists and the USA took home Bronze. They will each enter Cape Town as top seeds in their respective pools, with New Zealand the top team overall in Pool A.
Pool B will see Brazil joining up with Canada, along with France and Spain. The Women’s Eagles will face Australia, England, and Ireland in a challenging Pool C. Hosts South Africa, the only non-core team in the tournament, will face the Black Ferns in Pool A as well as Russia and Fiji.

The three-day event begins on Friday, December 13. Live broadcasts will be available on the CBC Sports website in Canada, NBC Sports Gold in the USA, and ESPN in South America.
