The Houston SaberCats have added scrumhalf Jake Christmann to their roster for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. It’s the third MLR club the 20-year-old has been attached to having played for the Glendale Raptors in 2018 and signing with the Utah Warriors ahead of 2019.
Christmann enjoyed a breakthrough season with Glendale in 2018, starting four games while acting as understudy to Eagles starter Shaun Davies. He signed for Utah in the off-season but a serious leg injury ruled him out for the entire 2019 campaign, though he recovered in time to suit up for the USA u20s against Canada in June.
Houston now hold five halfbacks on their roster with De Wet Roos and Sam Windsor first choice at scrumhalf and flyhalf respectively and Zachary Short able to cover both positions. They also boast a highly promising combination for the future in Christmann and fellow Junior All-American Kieran Farmer.
