Utah signs Canada flyhalf Robbie Povey

The Utah Warriors have completed the signing of Canadian international Robbie Povey for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. He joins from Sale FC in England’s National One, who he joined earlier this year after initially signing with RFU Championship club Coventry.

Povey is English-born but qualifies for Canada through his mother, a native of Montreal. Equally at home as a flyhalf or fullback, the 23-year-old goal kicker played for both the Canada u20 and Senior ‘A’ sides before making his test debut against Chile in the 2017 Americas Rugby Championship. He was part of an extended training group for the 2018 Repechage qualifier series.

Utah have now confirmed 34 players for the upcoming season, 15 of whom are new to the club. Povey joins Germany’s Hagen Schulte as No10 options for 2020, with former Collegiate All-American Jared Whippy able to cover flyhalf or center. The team began preseason training on Monday.
