As part of the Get Into Rugby program Stéphane Lagache of the Fedération Française de Rugby (French Rugby Federation – FFR) has been involved in a Rugby Sevens coaching course in the Caribbean nation of the Dominican Republic.
Organized in conjunction with the French Embassy, the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Sport and the Federación Dominicana de Rugby (Dominican Republic Rugby Federation – FEDO Rugby) the initiative is set to benefit rugby players in the country by having them exposed to better training methods.
According to FEDO Rugby the sport was first introduced to the Dominican Republic in 1969, when a French diplomat wanted to play, was was his favorite sport, and had to primarily teach a group at a local university. Rugby has continued to exist in the country since then and is practiced in many universities nationwide.
FEDO Rugby was founded on October 20 2004. The union is not a World Rugby member and nor is it affiliated to either NACRA or Sudamérica Rugby.
