Old Glory sign Houston prop Jake Turnbull

Old Glory DC have added Major League Rugby experience to their front row for the 2020 season in the form of Houston SaberCats prop Jake Turnbull. The 26-year old loosehead specialist heads to his third professional side, having played for the Denver Stampede during PRO Rugby’s brief run in 2016.

Turnbull is a native of Australia where he played for Eastern Suburbs in Sydney’s Shute Shield. He is American-qualified through his mother and was part of the USA Select XV squad in the 2016 Americas Pacific Challenge. Since joining Houston in June 2017, Turnbull has been a regular in the SaberCats lineup, playing in 20 of 24 games across their two MLR campaigns.

It’s the 11th new signing confirmed by the expansion franchise, along with five returning players from the spring exhibition campaign. Among those already named are internationals Api Naikatini, Jamason Fa’anana-Schultz, and Danny Tusitala. Turnbull and Fa’anana-Schultz are expected to be joined by a third Houston export in DC, Eagles center Thretton Palamo.
