Rugby World Cup 1999 was the first RWC of the professional era. RWC 1995 saw the end of amateurism and with it RWC 1999 would see a change in the landscape of who different teams were prepared compared to that from 1987-1995 RWCs.
The 1999 World Cup was also the first following expansion form 16 to 20 teams. With South Africa hosting in 1995 and Africa being allocated a second spot there were two casualties which meant neither Fiji nor the USA would be involved.
RWC 1999 saw both Fiji and the USA participating and also debut appearances for Namibia, Spain, and Uruguay. For Los Teros RWC 1999 would make their debut at a Rugby World Cup. Argentina, and Canada both competed to see the Americas with four competing teams for the first time in RWC history.
As the tournament unfolded there were shock results both in the pool stage and well into the knock-out stage. The following documentary takes a look back at the tournament. It does so by looking over each pool, to include performance from each of Argentina, Canada, Uruguay, and the USA.
