The inaugural Americas Rugby Challenge (ARCh) u20s competition is to begin on Sunday. The Four Nations competition will see three South American countries, and one North American country competing in Paraguay from Sunday August 11 – Saturday August 17.
The ARCh will be played at the home of Paraguayan rugby, the Estadio Héroes de Curupaytí in Asunción. It is to be co-organized by the Unión de Rugby de Paraguay (URP) and Sudamérica Rugby.
Competing at the ARCh u20s will be Mexico (representing Rugby Americas North), Chile, Colombia, and Paraguay (representing Sudamérica Rugby).
The objective of the competition is to test the high performance of rugby players within this age group and to enable the players to develop into potential future test players to compete at the senior level in the ARCh or the Americas Rugby Championship (ARC).
The competition has been position immediately before the ARCh in the calendar. The 2019 ARCh will be played in Medellín from Saturday August 25 to Sunday August 31. Competing will be Colombia, the Cayman Islands, Mexico, and Paraguay.
The Cayman Islands are the debutants, replacing Guyana. The Caribbean nation qualified for the ARCh by completing a comprehensive 58-14 win over Guyana in February.
