Los Jaguares XV blasted their way past the SWD Eagles today to secure a spot in the Semi Finals of the Currie Cup First Division. In an obliteration the Argentine side won by 80 points as they completed an 83-3 victory.
Back starting for the first time since March was Bautista Delguy. He passed the trial with flying colors as he ran-in a hat-trick. Julian Domínguez also impressed as he scored two tries. With Santiago Carreras also crossing the back-three were simply unstoppable.
It bodes well for Argentina as places remain open for RWC 2019. Delguy, and Carreras are two names very much in the frame. The same is true of center Juan Cruz Mallía who based two tries as well as scrum-half Gonzalo Bertranou and forwards Rodrigo Bruni, and Francisco Gorrisen.
Bertranou will join Los Pumas in Salta to prepare for next Saturday’s Rugby Championship match against South Africa. Additional names from Los Jaguares XV are prime for involvement against South Africa in Pretoria on Saturday August 17.
The result was the third biggest win in the history of the Currie Cup First Division. It follows Valke’s 101-29 win over Eastern Province in 2018, and the Pumas 95-14 win over Valke in 2008.
While the win sees Los Jaguares XV qualifying for the Semi Finals of the Currie Cup First Division there is no path to the Premier Division.
