Pan Am Games – Day One Results

The first day of the Rugby Sevens event at the Pan Am Games went as planned with one-sided victories for the favorites in both men’s and women’s brackets. A close match between Colombia and Argentina featured in the women’s side, while Brazil and Chile fought to a draw in the men’s side.

Two tries from Laura Mejia led Colombia to their victory over Argentina in the opening match of the competition. A hat trick from Ariana Ramsey was tops for the USA, with doubles coming via Cheta Emba and Kristi Kirshe as the Women’s Eagles thumped Trinidad & Tobago in the other Women’s Pool A match.

Brazil outclassed hosts Peru with two tries apiece scored by Rafaela Zanellato and Isadora Cerullo. Canada had no trouble with Mexico, with Emma Chown, Caroline Crossley, and Tausani Levale each touching down twice.

The closest match of the day saw Brazil finish level with Chile. Lucas Duque and Daniel Sancery were the scorers for the Tupis, with the Condores tries scored by Rodrigo Fernández and Francisco Urroz. A blowout win for the USA over Guyana came with three tries from Maceo Brown and two for Ben Broselle.

Uruguay were more competitive against Canada but ultimately held scoreless with Nathan Hirayama and Admir Cejvanovic scoring two tries apiece for the winners. Los Pumas wrapped up the day by coasting past Jamaica, with doubles going to Fernando Luna and Francisco Ulloa.

Day Two sees Canada face Brazil in the most noteworthy match of the Women’s Draw. Argentina vs Canada in the Men’s Draw will be the last game of the day.
