Following the competition of a busy weekend of international activity the Americas Rankings have been updated. Calculations for the June 09 2019 edition take into account the June Internationals on Saturday, and Sunday in South America.
From a regional perspective the weekend was poor with a 0-4 return. The attendance for Brazil vs Spain was the talking point of Saturday, though with just 417 people in attendance in Osasco which is part of the largest city in South America.
Brazil’s performance against Spain was good overall. Os Tupis would lose 22-16 against Los Leones who started strongly only to have a very quiet second half. The updated rankings see Brazil losing 0.69 rankings points to fall to 58.36 points.
Chile’s 11-27 performance against Romania also represented a loss in points. Los Cóndores dropped 0.34 points to now be ranked on 54.75 points. They will have more to lose against Spain next weekend based on the closer proximity in points of the two.
Uruguay’s sure opening half was costly. Namibia ultimately went on to win 30-28, creating history in the process. In rankings terms it saw Uruguay losing a massive 2,00 points to fall below Samoa in the World Rankings. With it Uruguay are now ranked on 67.73 points.
The Argentina XV were beaten 48-40 by Russia. The result was a clear upset, the second of the day following Los Teros’ loss against Namibia. Yet with it being the next of XV rather than Los Pumas no rankings points were exchanged.
The Americas Rankings will be updated again next weekend. Both Brazil, and Chile are to play test matches with Los Leones playing in Santiago and the Oaks playing in Jundiaí. The appearance of Romania in Brazil will be the strongest ever opponent for Os Tupis from outside of the Americas.
