An Argentine winger has been nominated for the prestigious RPA Players’ Player of the Year Award. The RPA Players’ Player of the Year Award recognises the outstanding player of the domestic season as voted for by the players. It is the highest accolade in the English game.
Nominated is Argentine winger Santiago Cordero. He is joined by Exeter Chiefs teammate Henry Slade; Gloucester’s Danny Cipriano; Northampton Saints’ Cobus Reinach; and Sale Sharks Faf de Klerk.
The five players are officially considered by the players in England as the best five players in the 2018-2019 English Premiership.
Cordero’s outstanding season saw him named by Premier Rugby as the English Premiership Player of the Month in March. In that month he would beat 22 defenders, a number greater than that of all other players in the English Premiership. This was in addition to scoring two tries and having four try assists, a number also superior to that of all other players in the English Premiership.
In the 2018-2019 season he has defeated 96 defenders, a number unmatched by all other players over the past ten seasons of the English Premiership.
Aged 25, Cordero is targeting a second RWC tournament. He held down the starting right wing position in RWC 2015 but politics have seen him uncapped since he left Los Jaguares for the English Premiership.
Jaguars starting wingers Bautista Delguy, and Ramiro Moyano are the incumbents though both are presently injured with the former out for the season.
