Major League Rugby arrived at last in Canada as the Toronto Arrows played their first ever regular season home game against the NOLA Gold on Sunday. A sold-out crowd of more than 3,000 showed up to watch the two sides battle it out with the game held in the balance until the final play.
Canadian selectors will have watched with great interest following the retirement of Ray Barkwill earlier in the week, as two of the leading hooker candidates for the World Cup went head-to-head in the front row in NOLA captain Eric Howard and Toronto’s AJ Quattrin.
Openside flanker Kevin O’Connor was handed his first start by the Gold as was left wing Shawn Riley. Meanwhile John Moonlight returns for his first Arrows appearance since the first match of the season, a near-identical result played in New Orleans.
