Colombia Rise to 8th in Americas

Completing the South American B Championship undefeated has seen Colombia rise to 44th place in the official World Rugby World Rankings. This sees Los Tucanes ranked just five places below Brazil, their opponents in the South American A play-off in which the winner will play in the 2016 South American A Championship and the loser in the 2016 South American B.

Also within Colombia’s reach is the 36th ranked Paraguay. Both Brazil and Paraguay play in the South American A Championship while Colombia’s 2015 opponents Venezuela and Peru have finished the tournament ranked and 67th in 69th the world respectively. Also involved was Ecuador, a country yet to become a full World Rugby member.

In terms of the Americas Colombia is ranked 8th and is now above all NACRA members aside from the USA and Canada. Both Venezuela and Peru sit below Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, Mexico and Bermuda with Venezuela 13th in the Americas and Peru 14th.

Colombia is now on the verge of seriously challenging for a place in the South American A Championship and is a country of immense prospects following a significant boom in playing numbers and popularity.
