Noah Barker is set to make his Major League Rugby debut for the Glendale Raptors on Sunday. The Canadian prop agreed to the move in December but only recently returned from international duty in the Americas Rugby Championship. He will provide a much-needed boost for the struggling Raptors scrum against New York.
Capable of playing across the front row, Barker is most often found at loosehead prop and it’s there he is expected to play for Glendale. At 26 years old the James Bay product is only now starting to reach his prime. He graduated to test honors in the 2018 ARC and has since won 7 test caps including two starts.
Glendale’s struggles at the set piece are well documented and were largely their undoing in the draw against San Diego. Luke White has opted to focus on second row and his understudy Blake Rogers, while excelling in the loose, has not been as successful in the scrum. It’s hoped that Barker will steady the ship for the run-in to the playoffs.
