Chilean Fly half says Administration is ”on the wrong path”

Just before Los Condores fly out from Santiago to Spain Americas Rugby News had the opportunity to talk with fly half Francisco González Moller. Having played club rugby in New Zealand the pivot has experienced first hand how well organized systems result in quality returns.

The experience not only shaped him into an improved rugby player but also convinced him that the way the sport is run in his native Chile needs a significant overhaul. González Moller declared ”forget about the USA and Canada with their organization and professionalism.  It seems like we take one step forward and they move 100 steps.”

”Its time to get the right people on the right position and I’m not talking about my teammates it’s about the head of the federation, the administration and the people who want to live from rugby they are on the wrong path, not looking at it from a sporting perspective…. Hopefully things change”.

Looking at what lies ahead the fly half is upbeat about facing Spain. ‘Even though Chile hasn’t played since the South American Championship and that we haven’t any training or any test match we want to play an active game, move the ball around, be aggressive at the breakdown and finish the plays”.

For Los Condores the tour is vital preparation for what lies ahead as Chile’s dream of playing in an Americas Six Nations tournament is less than three months away from being a reality. Chile will face Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Uruguay and the USA in the new tournament set to begin in February.

González Moller shared his excited with Americas Rugby News: ”we are looking forward to it, 4 teams coming from the Rugby World Cup will give it a different rhythm. Hopefully we finish with a couple of wins and keep the team together, we need to make a statement and it has to be now, with Argentina supporting Uruguay and helping them grow its only going to make it harder for us.”

González Moller previously talked in greater depth with Americas Rugby News in a Hands On! His exclusive interview can be read here.
