Los Pumitas showed no mercy against Brazil today, completing a 90-5 victory in their u20s match in Uruguay. The match was the opening game of the 2019 South American u20s which is taking place in Montevideo.
Brazil was no match for Argentina as Los Pumitas demonstrated the world class junior system that exists in the country. In total they outscored Brazil by fourteen tries to one. Head Coach José Pellicena was treated to a tremendous performance from his players who are potential players for this year’s Junior World Championship in Rosario.
Three different players crossed for two tries each – Tomás Acosta Pimentel, Franco Moneta, and Juan Martín González. In addition Rodrigo Isgró bagged a hat-trick while Ignacio Vidal, Francisco Minervino, Facundo Elías, Julián Quetglas, and Mariano Muntaner were all scorers.
From the kicking tee Nicolás Roger landed eight conversions while Bautista Farise landed two, giving Los Pumitas 10 goals from 14 attempts.
Brazil’s points in the match came from right winger Weslley Barbosa. His score was a consolation try in the second half.
The win sees Los Pumitas into the final of the 2019 South American u20s. They will be up against Uruguay who defeated Chile in the other match played today.
