US Eagles lock Greg Peterson has signed a two-year deal with the Newcastle Falcons of the English Premiership. The news follows confirmation that England age-grade lock Will Witty will depart Newcastle at season’s end to join Exeter Chiefs.
It’s the third club in the space of a year for Peterson, who turns 28 in a week. After spending three and a half seasons with Glasgow Warriors he moved to Bordeaux Bègles in December as a medical joker until the end of the 2018-19 Top 14 season. He will now make the jump to England following his USA commitments at the World Cup.
Falcons are currently in last place on the Premiership table, three points below Worcester with six games left in the season. Canadian lock Evan Olmstead was recently signed to a short-term deal from Auckland to help stave off relegation. It’s not clear if Peterson’s deal would be affected should Newcastle drop to the Championship next season.
