Ardron signs two-year Chiefs extension

Tyler Ardron has put pen to paper on a new Chiefs contract that will see him playing Super Rugby through the 2021 season. The 27-year-old is in the second of a his original two-year deal signed in May 2017. He is set to start his third game of the 2019 campaign on Saturday against the Crusaders.

While his introduction to New Zealand rugby got off to a slow start with Bay of Plenty in the 2017 Mitre 10 Cup, Ardron found his form with the Chiefs in 2018. He would appear in 11 matches for the Hamilton-based franchise, starting 10. His Super Rugby was played mostly at lock but he showed his versatility by playing blindside flanker and No8 spot while captaining the Magpies in the 2018 Mitre 10 Cup.

Canada’s captain at the 2015 event in England, Ardron is set to play in his second World Cup tournament later this year in Japan. To date the Peterborough native has won 31 caps since his test debut in June 2012, with all 29 starts coming in the back row. He is currently the only North American international signed to a Super Rugby franchise.
