Austin Elite have added another Canadian to their ranks. Canada ‘A’ cap Aidan McMullan has signed with the Major League Rugby franchise, joining countrymen Josh Larsen, Travis Larsen, Doug Fraser, and recent addition Moe Abdelmonem in Texas. Fraser is expected to be publicly confirmed by the club next week when he returns from international duty.
McMullan, 21, is known for his creative attacking play and strong left-footed kicking ability. The Quebec native was a standout with the Atlantic Rock in the Canadian Rugby Championship across three seasons beginning as a 19-year-old in 2016.
While he has played flyhalf and outside center at the provincial level, it’s as a back three player where McMullan’s international opportunities have come. He was the starting fullback for Canada at the 2017 World Rugby u20 Trophy tournament, playing alongside Toronto Arrows front row pair Steve Ng and Cole Keith and Seattle Seawolves midfielder George Barton.
Most recently McMullan has been playing for the UVic Vikes in the CDI Premier League, though he has already suited up for Austin during the MLR preseason. He could make his regular season debut as early as Saturday when Austin travel to Colorado to play the Glendale Raptors.
