Brazil captain Yan Rosetti has returned from a long-term injury absence to join up with the squad ahead of the Americas Rugby Championship match against the USA on Saturday. The 25-year-old is the only specialist hooker in the squad with Wilton Rebolo now set to continue in the role after against Canada during the opening rounds of the competition.
There are three uncapped players in the 29-man traveling roster, two of them new to the group. Loosehead prop João Talamini, understudy of Lucas Abud at Poli, is called up having been part of the Argentina touring group in November.
Matteo Dell’Acqua arrives from Italy having made his Tupis debut against the Māori. He is now set to win his first test cap at lock, while midfielder Lorenzo Massari also awaits his first international appearance after being an unused replacement against Canada.
[EDIT: Massari in fact came on in the 78th minute of the match against Canada, winning his first test cap as a replacement for Robert Tenório. ARN apologies for the error.]
Since the famous upset win during the 2016 ARC, Brazil have lost both matches to the USA. The 2017 match also took place at Dell Diamond with the Eagles coming away 51-3 winners, while in 2018 the two sides played at São José dos Campos with the final score 45-16 in favor of the visitors.
