It’s a full weekend of action in the RFU Championship with one game on Friday, four on Saturday, and one on Sunday. Several players remain on international duty but there are three matches on Saturday of interest to Americas fans.
The most interesting is at the Mennaye where Cornish Pirates host Ealing Trailfinders. With London Irish now nine points clear at the top of the table, only Ealing can stop them and it’s looking less likely by the day. Pirates could all but wrap up the league for the Exiles if they were to beat the Trailfinders.
Leading out the home side once again is Canada’s Brett Beukeboom, who has started all 14 league matches this season. There is no place for Matt Evans but Javier Rojas is named on the bench. Ealing counter with their own North American lock in he USA’s Ben Landry who returns from injury.
Another Eagles international is back from the disabled list as Will Hooley starts for Bedford Blues on their road trip to the Athletic Ground to face London Scottish. Hooley is in line for a direct recall to the Americas Rugby Championship if he comes through in good shape.
Canadian fans might be wondering what life would the results over the past two weeks might have been like if Shane O’Leary had been kicking for them instead of Nottingham. The Championship’s leading points scorer continues to be an automatic selection for his club who face Doncaster at Castle Park.
