Captain for the day against South Africa on Friday Nicolás Sánchez scored eight points taking his tally for the tournament to 97, a larger number than all other players in Rugby World Cup 2015. Sánchez’s 97 points see him joining Gonzalo Quesada who was the top point scorer in Rugby World Cup 1999.
Finishing second to Sánchez in the complete Rugby World Cup 2015 tournament was South African Handre Pollard. Both goalkicking finalists Bernard Foley and Dan Carter complete the top four.
Sánchez played in six of Argentina’s seven matches, starting against New Zealand, Georgia, Tonga, Ireland, Australia and South Africa. He was rested for Argentina’s game against Namibia which saw Juan Martín Hernández playing fly half while centers Santiago González Iglesias and Juan Pablo Socino shared the goal kicking.
Pollard scored four fewer points than Sánchez but played in an additional match. Pollard started all matches accept the opener against Japan when he was on the bench. Sánchez’s points came from 13 conversions, 20 penalties, 2 drop goals and one try. He will play Super Rugby in 2016 for the Argentine franchise.
