Castres were defeated by Exeter Chiefs in the Champions Cup match at Sandy Park on Sunday but there was a moment to savor for Taylor Paris. The Canadian winger broke a try-scoring drought that stretched back to February of 2018 for Canada against Uruguay. It was his first in a competitive match for Castres and his first ever points in European competition.
Injuries restricted his 2017-18 campaign to just five matches for Castres, who he signed with after four years with Agen, and he appeared in just one of Canada’s World Cup Qualifying matches in November after being rested for the June tests.
The try was scored in the 8th minute of the match, drawing the scores level after an early Jack Nowell try for Exeter. Castres would concede two further scores before halftime and a red card to prop Tudor Stroe in the 58th minute ended any hope of a comeback.
