The heavily rumored move of John Quill from Glendale to Rugby United New York is now official. The 28-year-old flanker will play the 2019 Major League Rugby season for the expansion franchise, departing the Raptors after helping them reach the 2018 final.
It’s a significant addition for New York. The Cork, Ireland, native was part of the 2015 World Cup squad having made his test debut in November 2012. After a brief hiatus in 2016 Quill returned to the Eagles in early 2017 and has been an ever-present since. This past November he started against Romania and Ireland, and was a key player in the historic win over Scotland in June.
Quill turned out for Glendale as recently as October when he lined up against the Americas Selects but will now make the move to the east coast. He adds to a RUNY loose forward stable that already includes newcomer Alex MacDonald and MLR veterans Matt Hughston, Ross Deacon, and Kyle Sumsion.
